Swiss Club Malta’s first ever National Day Celebration
Wied iz-Zurrieq Torri Xutu
On August 1st, 25 Swiss Citizens living in Malta and three who were traveling in the islands joined together to celebrate the 732nd birthday of Switzerland. The Swiss Confederation’s Flag and Cantonal Flag of Geneva were flown above the tower, representing the first foreign flags besides the Order of St John to be flown on this historical watch tower guarding Malta’s Southern border. Enjoying Swiss delicacies and a blood moon to the east and a setting sun to the west, we spoke in Swiss German, French and Italian and introduced a few local guests to our Swiss traditions. Swiss Club of Malta sends a special thanks to the Qrendi local council and Din L’Art Helwa for making this event possible. As a gesture of our sincere thanks, Swiss Club of Malta makes a donation to Din L’Art Helwa to support the protection, restoration, maintenance of historical sites in Malta, such as the one we enjoyed to celebrate Swiss National Day.
